
Tonight I got back from the Brethren World Assembly.
As an introvert, I am not always comfortable meeting lots of new people, but I really
do admire the diversity in the Pietist/Anabaptist tradition. Tradition is
such a bid deal for the Brethren ... it is sometimes not appreciated in the
nondenominational evangelical world. I was also reminded of the fact that smaller
denominations with a strong sense of identity seem to gravitate toward the
study of history at a much deeper level that most lay circles. I find this
produces a special appreciation for historical/theological scholarship. Highlights for me were getting to hear Dale Stoffer, Aaron Jerviss, Jeff Bach, Karen Garrett, Denise
Kettering Lane, Bill Kostlevy, and Carl Bowman. Some of their recent titles include:
