Lecture Tonight on Moravian Women and 19th century Missions

The Moravian Archives in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania is hosting a lecture by Daniel Crews, archivist at the Moravian Archives, Southern Province. The lecture, which is to held tonight (April 11) at 7:00 is entitle, "Not Without Women: New Perspectives on the Moravian Mission to the Cherokees"
New translations and published editions of the voluminous records of the Moravian mission to the Cherokees in the 19th century are revealing significant information about Cherokee life and culture as well as the work and struggles of the missionaries. What is becoming more obvious is the crucial role of women in this period, both in the mission and in Cherokee society in general.
